HDMI CABLES
What is HDMI
HDMI, stands for the rather scary-sounding High Definition Multimedia Interface.
HDMI is a connector that allows you to connect a piece of high-definition equipment, such as a Freesat HD box, Sky+ HD box or a Blu-Ray player to an HD-Ready TV set.
TV sets and set-top boxes that support High Definition commonly have a 'female' HDMI socket, and you use a male-to-male HDMI lead to connect the two.
HDMI technology provides the highest possible signal to meet the needs of today’s – and tomorrow’s – HD entertainment systems.
With a single cable, it transmits:
• digital video
• multi-channel surround sound
• advanced control data
HDMI connectivity is already standard on a wide range of products:
• HDTV’s
• Blu-ray Disc players
• multimedia PCs
• gaming systems
• digital camcorders, and more.
With HDMI connectivity, you get it all: the convenience of a one-cable solution, plus the power and performance of a high-speed digital link. Now and in the future, it’s the best way to connect HD.
HDMI leads can be purchased in lengths running from 0.5 meters to 50 metres. Different quality cables are available – with our in store prices ranging from £14.99 to £79.99.
It's important to be aware that if you use a very long HDMI lead, you may start getting signs of interference (white sparkles on screen). Leads over 10 meters are prone to picking up interference from mains electricity, so if you need to go over 10 meters, use a high-quality cable that's well shielded.
Not enough HDMI sockets on your TV?
If your TV doesn't have enough HDMI sockets, consider an HDMI Switch.

Need to connect one HD box to two TV sets?
If you need to split one HDMI feed to multiple TV sets, you will need an HDMI splitter. These require mains power.
You can get a box that splits one source to two TV sets, or even one that splits up to four TV’s.

What is an Optical cable?
A digital optical cable, also called a TOSLINK cable, is a fibre optic cable that can be used to connect digital components, such as Sky HD, Blu Ray Players & Recorders, DVD Recorders & Players to give excellent sound though your Home Theatre system. The cable can be made of cheap plastic or higher grade optical strands.
Optical cables use pulses of light to transmit audio. Coaxial cables use copper wire to transmit their data so there can be dropouts. With optical cables, there is no interference and the signal stays strong, giving one of the best reproductions of digital signals available on the market today. Optical cables are ideal for long distances too, because they work great in environments with a lot of electrical interference.
Optical leads start at 0.75 meters and go up to 10 meters in length.
